Namu Ramen & Rolls Opens in Clarksville Commons

April 26, 2024

Clarksville, MD – Namu Ramen & Rolls has officially moved into the space previously occupied by Genova il Sapore d’Italia at Clarksville Commons. Beginning April 25th and for the first two weeks, the Korean restaurant will be limited to carry-out and delivery only as final touches on the new interior are made.

Jini and Yeong Chea, who are new owners and residents of Ellicott City, have brought their extensive restaurant experience to Howard County. The Cheas previously owned the popular Red Kimono in Fairfax, VA, and will be offering much of the same menu from their previous venture. With 30 years of experience in the restaurant business, Yeong Chea and his wife Jini turned Red Kimono into a destination spot in Fairfax during their six years of ownership. Recently, they moved to Howard County, which led to the sale of Red Kimono, and they now have the opportunity to bring their culinary creations to their new community.

Namu’s menu is focused heavily on ramen and rolls, as the name suggests, but it also includes some delightful surprises. Namu’s Korean version of ramen differs slightly from the more familiar Japanese style, as it is made with chicken-based broth instead of beef. Vegetable, miso, and shoyu broth are available on select dishes. The restaurant has over a dozen different versions of the popular and flavorful noodle, including chicken, shrimp, bulgogi, tofu, and vegetable ramen. Typically, these ramen dishes come with egg, dried seaweed, and assorted vegetables.

In addition to ramen, the restaurant offers a wide variety of sushi rolls. There are over 40 different types of rolls available, including both simple maki and specialty rolls. Some of the popular favorites include Dragon, Miss Spicy, Tiger, and Volcano, as well as local twists like Maryland Vegas. The restaurant also offers several vegetarian and vegan options, such as TCAS (tofu, cucumber, avocado, scallion) and Oshinko (pickled Daikon radish).

Two standouts on the new menu include four options for a Korean-style paella that is sure to intrigue and a kimchi that has been developed to perfection. The seafood paella is a robust selection of shrimp, scallops, salmon, baby octopus, crab stick, mussels, and white tuna that is sure to turn heads. A napa cabbage base enhanced with traditional Korean spices, the Namu Kimchi is destined to be a popular appetizer on its own or paired as a side dish for any selection on the menu.

Interior renovations should be complete within a few weeks, providing comfortable seating for fifty people and service for an additional thirty-plus patrons on the outdoor patio. Namu Ramen & Rolls is now open daily from 11 am-9 pm for carryout and delivery with online ordering available at namuramenrolls.com.
