Clarksville Commons is hiring a Community Events Assistant to support our farmers market and other community events at the Commons. The Community Events Assistant will report directly to the Director of Community Relations at Clarksville Commons.

Work Schedule
Saturdays from May 4 through November 23, 2024, 9:30am-2:30pm; select other days/times from March through December.
Completion of duties will require approximately 5-12 hours/week.
The Community Events Assistant is responsible for:
Acting as Farmers Market Assistant for approximately 30 markets, held on Saturdays.
- Coordinating with the Director of Community Relations to ensure smooth operation of all Farmers Markets.
- Attending all markets throughout the 2024 season, arriving prior to market start and remaining through market close.
- Assisting with unloading and loading of the Commons’ and vendors’ tents and supplies.
- Educating market customers about the Maryland Market Money (MMM) program.
- Processing MMM transactions.
- Collecting tokens from vendors at the close of market.
- Maintaining ongoing communication with market vendors in general, and particularly about the MMM program.
- Overseeing any markets when Director of Community Relations is not present.
Acting as Event Assistant for other events at the Commons:
- Supporting the Dir. of Community Relations in executing event plans.
- Welcoming and interacting with the public attending the event.
Acting as Event Host when the Director of Community Relations is not available:
- Greeting performers and other event partner organizations.
- Welcoming and interacting with community members attending events.
- Being on the plaza for the duration of events.
- Ensuring that everything is secured and tidy before leaving.
Qualifications include:
- A responsible enthusiastic self-starter with attention to detail and willingness to learn new skills.
- Strong verbal and customer service skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Available on Saturdays and evenings.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied seasons and weather conditions.
- Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
- Willingness to learn the technicalities of federal nutrition benefits programs.
- Demonstrated interest in food justice and local food systems.
- Ability to lift 20lbs. and stand for several hours.
This position will run from date of hire through December 14,2024. Starting salary will be $15/hour.
